Donald Trump (R-FL) is an American business man and American television personality and most recently, President of the United States of America. Donald has changed parties more than he has changed wives, if that tells you anything. He was speculated to run up against Obama in 2012, however, he waited until the 2016 election to throw his hat into the ring.

On June 16, 2015, Trump announced his bid for the White House. Trump ran his campaign on the ideals of "domestic issues such as illegal immigration, offshoring of American jobs, the U.S. national debt, and Islamic terrorism". Following with the issues presented, his slogan was "Make American Great Again". Unlike the other candidates, Trump self funded his entire campaign. He also promised to build a "a great, great wall" along the US-Mexico border. Trump also proposed a US travel ban from Muslim countries. Trump quickly rose to be the front runner along with Ted Cruz (R-TX). In Iowa, Ted Cruz came out victorious. This is supposedly due to "cheating", fraud, and scandals involved. Trump then went on to focus on winning in the other state's primaries. By June, Trump was the presumptive nominee for the party.

Trump's list of potential running mates included Mike Pence (R-IN), Chris Christie (R-NJ) and, Newt Gingrich (R-GA). In the end, Trump had selected Mike to be his VP nominee. He received several endorsements from fellow republicans including my "favorite", Sarah Palin. He went on to win the presidency in a shocking race against Hillary Clinton (D-NY). Trump received 306 electoral votes while Clinton only received 232 votes. Clinton did however win by 3 million votes in the popular vote.

In the White House, Trump had a rough first 100 days. He attempted to take advantage of the majority in Congress (both chambers) but no major bills of his were passed. His repeal of Obamacare was a flop. By the end of 2017, 34% of his staff and personnel has resigned or was removed. Many of his cabinet members and officials had been replaced at least once during the term. During his term, Trump made three Supreme Court appointments. Trump nominated Neil Gorsuch to fill the vacancy left by the death of Antonin Scalia in January 2017. He also nominated Brett Kavanaugh in July 2018 to replace Justice Anthony Kennedy, which was met with much controversy with several rape allegations made against him. And last but not least, Trump nominated Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court to replace RBG in September 2020.

Under the Trump administration, the economy did very well according to whitehouse.gov with record jobs, bringing jobs to the US, and record stock highs. While the accomplishments are few, it does not take away from the rhetoric and destruction that Trump and his enablers have caused. His "task force" to combat Covid-19 was two fries short of a happy meal. With VP Pence at the head, they failed horribly. Trump also pulled from WHO, and continued to downplay it and refuse to take any action. The inaction of the administration and task force lead to Donald and Melania getting COVID on October 2nd, 2020 along with other members of the WH such as Kayleigh McEnany, Hope Hicks, Kellyanne Conway, and Chris Christie.

Trump forced a rhetoric suggesting that he won the election for over two months. He filed over 60 lawsuits, nearly all of them being thrown out. First it was wait till the states certify, then December 14th, then January 6th. Little did we know that January 6th would be the darkest day in our country since 9/11. He consistently encouraged supporters to march to the capitol and pushed a dangerous agenda. He led an attempted coup against the democracy of our country. This lead to his second impeachment, the first which had occurred in 2019. He has only a week left, why impeach him now? If it was any other president or earlier in his term, the impeachment would have happened. It is on the basis of holding him accountable for his actions against our country and our democracy. If convicted by the senate, he would lose all presidential benefits and they can vote to block him from a 2024 run. This is most likely to occur, but that does not rule out any of Don's kids from running (unfortunately). Donald did not do the ceremonial White House visit of the incoming president and will NOT attend the inauguration. He is one of 4 past presidents who have not attended their successor's inauguration. Pence (I will talk about his role in everything at a later date) will attend.

How could of Trump won? He frankly needed a less messy term and something to up the antics. What would that have been? Well, Nikki Haley (R-SC) was in talks to replace VP Mike Pence for the position. Pence was a weak link throughout his term and campaign. It wasn't until the coup when we saw the 'real' Mike Pence. If that would have happened, I could have seen Trump maybe gaining a state or two. She (Haley) is respected and definitely a front-runner for 2024.

In conclusion, Donald Trump's presidency was one of accomplishments for our country meet with triple the amount of problems. His dangerous racist, sexist, and xenophobic policies caused many issues. His lack of response and downplaying of the COVID-19 pandemic caused us a great decline. He has destroyed the GOP and our country. His damage is almost irreparable. He has created a mess for Biden to inherit. He is also the the first one-term president in over twenty years. He is also the first president to have no prior political experience and to be impeached twice! His term will go down as one of the worst in US history.
